4 Team-Building Exercises to Improve Your Company’s Culture

Updated: May 22

There are a lot of benefits to having your staff involved in team-building exercises. It increases productivity, motivation, collaboration and creativity. It also helps work towards solidifying the right type of company culture within your organization, an element that comes with its own list of advantages: improved financial performance, higher employee morale, greater engagement, better customer service, and higher employee retention.

So, now that it is clear these benefits are something that any and every organization could use, the only question left is how to get them. Fortunately, we are going to dive into 4 team-building exercises that are guaranteed to improve your company’s culture.

Three Truths and a Lie

A classic game and a great way to break the ice and get people familiar with one another. The concept of this exercise is simple: Gather everyone together and one person has to make four statements, three of which are true and one which is a lie, about themselves. It is then up to the group to determine which is the lie. Usually, once this all is said and done, most participants of this game will find themselves with more insight into their co-workers.

Team Birthday Lineup

Everybody has a birthday, and knowing the date is all that is required for this game. Gather your team together - the bigger, the better - and have them line up in chronological order. For a little added competition, break a larger group into smaller ones and have them compete against one another.

Human Knot

The rules are simple, but the fun is profound when it comes to this game. Get a group of people together and ask everyone to hold the hands of two other people. However, no one should hold the hand of someone who is standing directly next to them. Got it? Good. Now, try to untangle yourself. Trust us - this game will open up the floodgate of communication and will have everyone laughing and feeling good when and if they get untangled (and even if they don’t).

Scavenger Hunt

Gather a group of people together and divide them into a least two teams. Then, give them a list of items to find or a list of tasks they need to accomplish before a specific deadline. Whichever team finishes first wins. This game is not only a great way to be active, it encourages teammates to communicate and work together towards a common goal.
